SQL has been busy remixing for MBF and is hailed as one of the forthcoming talents in Holland.
Pim van Horssen has played clubs all over Europe.
His release “Distorted Reality” released on SK Supreme has had some major success as it was no 1
on the Beatport minimal top 100 for weeks and was played and charted by Richie Hawtin and
Marco Carola. This breakthrough in Pim’s career has placed SQL on the map.
After digital releases on respected labels like Composure, SK Supreme, Tribal Vision and
Microtonal Records and a lot of remixes during the last year, SQL has now chosen his debut on
vinyl on MBF.
With support from people like Armin van Buuren, Derek Howell, Andy Newland for his previous
releases that comes as no surprise.
His 4 track EP „Midnight Brunch“ is based on magic stripped down tracks which seem sparse but
are in fact super funky. A bit of Chicago's house history is incorporated for sure, when you listen to
the beats, but Pim van Horssen is definitely also new school. His dry and wailing sounds, put him
next to Daniel Bell.
“Midnight Brunch” is a big DJ tool, a peak time rocker of a track.
“Border Dot" on the flipside of the 12“ is a more sensual mover, with a more recognisable
arrangement and features which could make it a favourite for many DJs.
“Funky Visa” and especially “Sunday” represent the more deep end of SQL´s debut on MBF.
Tese tracks have a more Detroit feel and can be played by House DJs as well.
Please also check out new act from Cologne Intuitiv with their remix of Border Dot.
„Midnight Brunch“ is cool debut by one of the newcomers from the Netherlands who will bring us
innovative dance music in the future.
