Our second US artist signing on MBF couldn't be better, since with EZDB we have two heavyweights who have written techno-house history in the United States. Both are members of the West Coast’s infamous Funky Techno Tribe crew that sought to push the boundaries of house music.
EZDB are: Daniel Wherrett and Barry Weaver.
That's big news and we know we cannot do them justice in such a short press release, so apologies to everyone that seeks more a detailed info here.
Barry Weaver has been part of the LA underground scene from the early days and is mentioned in one go with legends such as Doc Martin, Marques Wyatt and DJ Dan. He witnessed San Francisco and Los Angeles disco, punk and new wave scenes as well as their infamous mid-eighties underground parties.
It was at this crucial time that Barry’s interest in becoming a DJ became reality, long before the DJ became the cultural icon it is today. He’s shared billing with heavyweights such as Danny Tenalgia, Richie Hawtin, Steve Angello, Felix Da Housecat, Tiga, Carl Cox, Armand Van Helden.
He has focused much of his considerable experience and talent into promoting various weekly and one-off club events, introducing people there to artists such as Claude VonStroke, Jesse Rose, Samim, Deadmau5, Tiga, Radio Slave, Optimo, Maurice Fulton, Tommie Sunshine, among others.
It is not easier to sum up what Daniel Wherret has been up to for the last 10 years.
To refer to him as an American institution wouldn’t be far from the truth when it comes to DJ Dan who has been synonymous with good old American home-grown talent for over two decades now; a record collector, house innovator and true legend of the scene. He’s shaped trends and sounds in his homeland all his musical life, taking the baton from house luminaries such as DJ Pierre, Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy.
Sharpening his skills with wax at small clubs in Seattle, Dan’s experience in the late 80’s behind the decks converted into a profound knowledge of what people want on the dance floor, a trait still ingrained in him today.
Leaving history behind to introduce their tracks on MBF, means to see both combining their efforts to write great dance floor music.
For MBF both have recorded together, what might be described by the term ‘Future Retro’ a term which has been used to describe their recent music and which seems to fit well.
"I was Looking" is a great hi energy track with an irresistible groove, collecting all energy and creating a perfect harmony.
The track is so bass heavy it degrades your headphones to a mere witness of something big happening.
This track steers in such a confident way towards an unknown destination, you just want to jump on it let it all happen.
"(Re)born" is one of these tracks which constantly grows on you. „(Re)born“ limits itself to seemingly few elements, but just as the best tracks ever written, also this track is so sophisticated… it makes you breathless.
Every step taken with so mush consideration... it shows the extra class of these top heavy weight producers.
This track is like a tunnel with light at it's end… you can’t wait to be inside and you just go along with it since you know it will take you till the very end, till it releases you to the outer world.
For all of you that go for a more straight techno appeal, check the bonus club mix on position 3.
