Polarfunk's fresh and unique combination!
Polarfunk is a music teacher, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer from Oldenburg, Germany. After his classical music education, he got into electronic music exploring artists like Dominik Eulberg, Lane 8 and Ben Böhmer. Having played piano since he was a child, he expanded his skills as a musician through learning how to create electronic sounds and started his career in 2021 by releasing "Nacht & Nebel" on Ben Böhmer's label Ton Töpferei. He got deeper into the scene by doing a remix for Diode Eins, playing small but intense deephouse gigs in his hometown and releasing some tracks on Pretty Pink’s Deep Woods.
Polarfunk then continued to develop his distinct style, building on the success on the Tour De Traum series, and now introduces a fresh and unique combination with his new EP.
This release, however, stands apart from his Tour De Traum contributions with tracks like "Ferdinand" and "Titus" offering a new, eclectic blend of introspective moments fused with bursts of joy.
The EP's opening track, "Supernova", starts with a subtle and controlled energy, a quiet restraint that hints at the explosion of sound that is about to come. Gradually, it builds into a powerful force, breaking down into countless intricate digital fragments, which then reassemble into something mighty and intense. "Supernova" is truly an emotional rollercoaster, maintaining tension from the very beginning to its final, resonant notes.
"Luna" the second original track on the EP, opens with a cinematic and slow-motion feel, reminiscent of a movie soundtrack. As the track progresses, whispered vocals and elegant, winding sequences weave through, bringing a subtle yet captivating sensuality. The piano melody that eventually emerges serves as the final, perfect touch, completing the track’s intricate soundscape. "Luna" is a delicate journey that resonates with a deep sense of togetherness and joy. It’s a moody house anthem crafted for those who appreciate the emotional depth and introspective vibes of electronic music.
To complement this journey, the EP features two remixes from talented Traum artists who have recently released their own solo EPs.
Kawari’s remix of "Supernova" brings an upbeat tempo, blending in a boundless sense of optimism that propels the track into new territory.
The second remix is delivered by pørtl, formerly of the post-rock band "There's a Light". Their take on "Supernova" strips it down to a more straightforward yet dreamy version, skillfully merging two contrasting worlds into one. This blend results in a subtle but captivating tension that keeps listeners hooked.
